Having a site become unavailable because the servers went down is annoying fro the site’s visitor and for the site’s owner. The visitor is annoyed by the fact that he or she cannot access the site and the functionality it provides. For the owner it is annoying because server downtime means lost productivity and lost money. It is thus important fro the site owner to keep track of the servers and ensure they’re always up and running (efficiently)

Power Admin-developed application that weighs in at some 32MB, works with any version of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system and, as the name so adequately points out, monitors the availability and health of your web servers.

There are thee versions of PA Server Monitor available for download: PA Server Monitor Free, PA Server Monitor Lite and PA Server Monitor Pro. The Pro version does not come free of charge, I know. But if you go for the Pro version, you get the most features. That is why I’ve decided to give it a shot.

What I liked about PA Server Monitor is that it has a smart configuration feature that automatically sets up monitoring of all servers (monitor more than 1400 servers). The dreaded task of having to set up monitors is made a breeze thanks to the smart configuration feature.

Speaking of monitoring, you should know that with PA Server Monitor you can monitor disk space, web pages, event logs, services, processes, mail, files, directories, temperature, TCP ports and lot more.

On top of monitoring a long list of items, you can also use PA Server Monitor to produce reports, set actions, schedule monitoring, view HTML output.

Should something affect the health or stability of your web servers, PA Server Monitor can alert you about it, by email, SMS and more.

PA Server Monitor is a powerful yet easy to use tool to monitor the health and availability of servers. Definitely a smart tool for staying on top of your network.
